Max is a 5 year old, 16.1H, Draft Cross gelding. He is safe, sound, healthy and loves to jump. Max’s personality is warm and affectionate. He is always willing to cooperate in every task, and apply his quiet strength. If he has a fault, it is that he is a bit lazy, but for a timid rider who fears a horse taking off on them, Max is a dream come true. He loads, clips, bathes, is great with vet & farrier, and all around is easy to get along with.

 For a big guy he is surprisingly light on his feet in a gymnastics grid, or when he is in regular flat work. He can bend nicely and shows some potential for dressage. Max’s main job for the past year has been as a foxhunting horse where he showed himself to be a real gentleman. He ifs offered for sale now because his owner has moved up to a far more aggressive field hunter.

Max’s conformation is quite good for a heavier horse. In the picture below his abilities to extend, as well as reach under shows his innate athletic side. Many draft crosses suffer from the drafty straight shoulder and the muscle bound hind that adds up to the all too common “klippidy klopper” type cross one sees today. Not Max. He may be a bit stout, but has lots of understated athletic ability.



Max has many qualities, and perhaps his best is his cooperation with the rider when cantering and jumping in the open field. Max has hunted in the first and second fields of the hunt with great success and complete rider control. If anything, he tends to fall a bit behind. However, for the courteous rider, there is never a need to feel any embarrassment or fear that Max will get beyond the rider’s control and perhaps disturb another member of the hunt. Max is his own man, and is just as willing and compliant whether he is out alone on a trail with a rider, or in a crowded hunt field.

As a jumper Max has great confidence in his hind’s ability to power him over anything he might encounter in the hunt field or an arena. He always provides an appropriate jump, neither over jumping nor dragging his feet. He is a steady self assured jumper with surprising agility. He has the ability to jump gracefully out of a bend, and to bend nicely over a jump and land in a tight turn if required. This kind of athleticism is usually reserved for the catlike lighter breeds, but no one ever told Max that. He’s a surprisingly agile, super willing jumper.

Max is the horse everyone is looking for. He’s quiet, safe, exceedingly manageable, an easy keeper, and he can carry any rider. He did have a skin condition that has left some small blemishes, but is now healed. At 5 years old he is ready to focus on what will be his life long career. It could be foxhunting, eventing, or dressage. He’d also be a great mount for an older rider who is slowing down a little, one that may have put on a few extra pounds, but still likes to get out and enjoy a good ride and know at the end of the day all with be safe and sound. Wherever Max goes and what ever he does, someone is going to have a really nice horse that’s easy to get along with.
