Starting the Young Horse is a clinic on how to start a young horse in their training as a riding horse. The techniques covered are the very beginning stages of training and are neither Western nor English. Clinic participants will learn the application of Mr. Wood’s Comfort, Connection & Purpose System of training.

Each participating horse will be evaluated on the basis attention span, temperament, work ethic, natural physical ability, and suitability for future direction or use.

The limit of five horses provides for a maximum of individual attention for each horse and owner. In each of the three main elements of the clinic each participant will receive specific step by step attention to their horse’s potential and the challenges the owner will likely face in future training.

Schedule:

10:00AM - 12:00PM Horse Evaluation

12:15PM – 1:15PM Theory Seminar & Lunch

1:15PM - 3:30 PM Application of training principles

Horses considered for the clinic must be accustomed to being lead in a halter. Because the horses will be primarily young horses with short attention spans, we will switch back and forth between the participating horses. Therefore when a horse is not directly participating in the clinic the owner must be able to return the horse to their trailer where it may be required it stand for long periods.
